Brisbane containers off Fisherman Islands, Pinkenba and Hemmant

Brisbane orders are filled from depots already on the river — Fisherman Islands, Pinkenba and Hemmant — rather than from a truck that has crossed a state border. The container and the cartage are quoted together against your address.

Which Brisbane depot the box actually leaves

Fisherman Islands, Pinkenba and Hemmant are the three Port of Brisbane holdings this site already names. A 20ft or a 40ft for a Brisbane address comes off whichever of those is holding the size and grade, then makes a short road run. That is a different job from a Gold Coast or Toowoomba order, which leaves the same river depots and then keeps going.

Dates are set when the order is placed, from what is standing in that grade and how the truck board looks. A plain cargo-worthy 20ft is the deepest pool. A 10ft, a high cube in one colour, or a single-trip unit just after a vessel has cleared, comes off a thinner stack, so the day moves. Heavy rain moves it too: the ground you want the box to sit on stops carrying a loaded truck before the arterial road does.

Nothing on this page is a Brisbane shopfront. We do not publish a street address for the river depots, and we do not invent a walk-in yard in the suburbs. Photos of the actual unit are available if you ask, and they are sent before the truck leaves. Asking for them is not tied to how you pay.

Queenslander streets versus the outer industrial belts

Wacol, Berrinba, Ripley, North Lakes and Redland Bay are the straightforward end of a Brisbane drop: wide gates, level hardstand, room for the truck to line up and turn. A tilt-tray can usually back in, tip the bed and slide the unit off.

Paddington, Bardon, Red Hill, Woolloongabba, New Farm and much of the inner north are the other job. High-set Queenslanders sit on small blocks with a single-width drive, figs and jacarandas over the road, and low services on timber poles. A tilt-tray that fits the street can still fail if there is no height to raise the deck and no length behind it for the box to slide clear. In those streets a crane truck is the vehicle that gets the unit in. It costs more to run than a tilt-tray, and it is quoted as its own part of the delivery, not hidden inside a container figure.

Send pictures of the entrance, the approach and the spot you have in mind. Those three let the vehicle be named before the quote is written, which matters more in Red Hill than it does on a Wacol hardstand.

What the space is usually doing in Brisbane

Ripley, Yarrabilba and North Lakes enquiries are often a lockable site box while houses go up. Rocklea, Wacol, Geebung and Northgate are trade storage: tools and materials on industrial land that already has truck access. Inner-north Queenslander renovations need somewhere for a household while the house is opened up. CBD tower trades want gear stored near the job rather than driven across the city each morning. Darra and Coopers Plains workshops sometimes want a shell to fit out, which is a different grade decision from a box that has to keep furniture dry.

Cargo-worthy units leaving the river depots are checked so they are wind and watertight before they go on a truck. As-is units are a separate grade: faults are named first, and that grade is not sold as watertight. Single-trip boxes usually look tidier and can still carry marks from the one voyage. Pick the grade from what is going inside, not from a slogan.

Getting a Brisbane site ready before the truck is booked

Walk the drop the way a driver would, a day or two ahead, not on the morning. At Wacol, Berrinba or a North Lakes estate the usual surprises are a skip still in the turning circle, a temporary fence panel across the hardstand, or a builder's lead half a metre lower than it looked from the street. On a Paddington or Red Hill block the surprises are overhead: a jacaranda limb, a service drop to the Queenslander, a carport beam. Measure the clear height where the deck would rise, and the clear length behind the spot where a box would slide. If either number is tight, say so in the enquiry rather than hoping the driver invents a solution in the street.

Corner castings, not the floor, carry the weight. Four pads — concrete, besser or hardwood — on ground that already carried the truck are enough for most Brisbane placements. After a storm, outer-estate fill at Ripley and Yarrabilba can look crusted and still punch through. If the spot is lawn, do not assume yesterday's dry surface is today's. A photo taken after rain is more useful than one taken in a dry week if your date might land in wet weather.

Door direction is a Brisbane mistake we see on renovations. An inner-north Queenslander often wants the doors facing the side path, not the street, because the household is moving furniture down that path. A Rocklea or Geebung workshop often wants the doors facing the roller door of the shed so a forklift line stays straight. Changing that after the box is down is another truck movement. Decide it, and say it, with the suburb.

Darra and Coopers Plains fit-out shells are a different conversation from a Northgate tool store. A shell can be a tired box. A tool store that must stay dry cannot. Tell us which of those you are, and which of Fisherman Islands, Pinkenba or Hemmant you are closest to, so the quote is about the right holding and the right vehicle.

Brisbane questions

Is there a Budget yard I can visit in Brisbane?

No street address is published for the Fisherman Islands, Pinkenba or Hemmant holdings, and this page is not a shopfront. Stock for Brisbane addresses is drawn from those Port of Brisbane depots and the delivery is quoted to your site.

Why do Paddington and Red Hill often need a different truck from Wacol?

Wacol and the outer belts usually have a straight run for a tilt-tray. Paddington, Bardon, Red Hill and similar inner streets are steep, narrow and planted, so the deck often cannot be raised. A crane truck is the usual alternative, and it is priced on its own.

Will rain in Brisbane change the day the truck comes?

It can. The date is fixed when you order, from depot stock and the truck board. After heavy rain the placement spot may stop carrying a loaded truck even when the road is open, so a firm date should be said at enquiry time.

Can I see the Brisbane unit before it arrives?

Yes. Ask for photos of that unit and they are sent before delivery. The photos are not a condition of payment.
