A container can fit on your block and still be impossible to deliver there. Leave room for the truck to approach, unload and leave. Check the delivery method with the transport team before committing to a location.
10ft: a tight-footprint option
A 10ft is roughly 3 metres long externally. It suits smaller equipment stores or sites where a longer unit cannot fit. It is not automatically cheaper than a 20ft: availability and how the unit was manufactured or converted matter. Compare the actual quotes rather than choosing on length alone.
20ft: a useful middle ground
About 6.06 metres long externally, with around 33 cubic metres of internal volume. It gives you room for furniture, tools or stock without the length of a 40ft. Plan an aisle if you need regular access; filling every cubic metre makes retrieval difficult.
40ft: more length, more planning
Roughly 12.19 metres long externally and around 67 cubic metres inside. Long items and larger storage loads may suit this size, but delivery access becomes especially important. Measure the complete approach, including turns, not just the final position.
High cube: look at the doorway too
A high cube adds about 300mm of height compared with a standard container. Taller internal space does not guarantee a tall item will pass through the doors: compare the item's packed dimensions with the door opening and allow for handling equipment.
