Before choosing a container, choose the job.

Temporary storage during a renovation has different needs from a long-term equipment store. List what is going inside, how long you need the space, and how often you will need to open it. That makes a size or hire discussion much easier.

Check the block before the catalogue.

Measure the proposed position and the approach from the street. Gates, fences, trees, buildings and overhead wires can affect delivery. The truck needs room as well as the container. Use the delivery checklist and send access photos when the team requests them.

A smaller box isn't always a smaller bill.

A 10ft may suit a tight footprint, but size alone does not determine price. Compare the quoted 10ft and 20ft options and their delivery requirements. The better choice is the one that fits the job and the site.

Protect the contents from moisture.

Choose cargo-worthy or new stock for contents that need a container checked wind and watertight. Pack dry items, allow for access and ask about ventilation where appropriate. Watertight does not mean temperature-controlled or free of condensation.

Check permission for the intended use.

Requirements can depend on the property, location, duration and use. Check with your council and, where applicable, landlord or body corporate. A storage container is not automatically approved as accommodation or a habitable space.

Buying or hiring?

For a fixed renovation period, ask about hire and the return transport cost. For ongoing storage, compare purchase and delivery. There is no universal break-even point: use the quotes for your job.
