Four costs to keep in view.

1. The container and its condition

Compare like for like: same size, same grade and similar condition. A low advertised price for an as-is unit is not a substitute for a cargo-worthy quote when dry storage is the job. As-is units are not sold watertight.

2. Delivery to the actual position

A postcode gives the transport team a starting point. Gate width, the unloading area, overhead obstructions and ground conditions help them choose a vehicle. Use the written delivery quote here rather than an estimate copied from someone else's suburb.

3. Preparing the spot

You may need site preparation or suitable supports. Ask the delivery team what they need at your site before buying materials. This calculator cannot assess ground bearing capacity, drainage or structural support requirements.

4. The extras for your use

Locks, shelving and ventilation may be useful depending on what is going inside. List them separately so they do not disappear from your budget. If hiring, ask about collection charges, hire duration and any other fees as well as the weekly amount.
